How often should you wash your towels?
Every 10 days. A towel that dries you should also dry itself.
What it actually is, and what shifts it
A towel that has stopped drying you is usually coated rather than worn out: fabric softener works by leaving a water-repellent film on the fibres, which is the exact opposite of a towel’s job. Wash them without it, and use white vinegar in the softener drawer instead if you want them soft.
Put it on a list that reminds you
“Wash towels”, every 10 days. Tick it when it is done and the next date is counted from that day, not from when it was due.
